On the wedding day before the ceremony the bride is veiled. The veil is in remembrance that when Jacob was to be wed to Rachel, but wed Leah for she was wearing a not-see-through veil over her face. The veil symbolizes modesty and the groom often veils the bride himself before the ceremony making sure it is indeed his bride,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], true love and partner in marriage.
After the 7 prayers are recited the bride and groom then drink the wine sharing one cup. After a few more blessings,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], being pronounced as husband and wife as per Civil Marriage Laws,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the groom gets his big moment to break the glass on the floor. The breaking of the glass symbolizes that the temple was destroyed. The breaking glass also represents that relationships are fragile, can be difficult to repair if damaged and that it's both the bride and groom's responsibility to care for it.
With Jewish wedding traditions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], there is traditionally music and festive dancing. During the celebration and reception a common Jewish wedding tradition is the wedding dance. This is a circle dance called the Hora. Here the guests get into a circle and dance around the bride and groom. The bride and groom are lifted up in chairs to symbolize trust and raised to symbolize they are special on their wedding day. For parents that celebrate their last child in marriage, they too are honored in a circle dance and crowned with a ring of flowers. A joy for the bride and groom, a joy for the parents to have the blessing of their children married.
Jewish wedding traditions are deep with symbolism. Everything from what is worn to the actions done earlier in the week has deep meaning. Marriage is looked upon as part of the circle of life and is holy. Jewish marriage and the various Jewish wedding traditions are something everyone looks forward to,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
1. Blessed by God who has created everything in his glory
2,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Blessed by God who has created man and woman
3. Blessed by God who has created man in the image of God
4. Blessed by God who makes Zion rejoice with the children
5. Blessed by God who brings happiness to the bride and groom
6. Blessed by God who has made both joy and gladness and who brings gladness to the bride and groom
7. Blessed by God who is the creator of the fruit of wine
After the rings exchanged, the Ketubah, the Jewish marriage contract and symbolizes the commitment to one another, as well their love for one another. The bride and groom stand under the Chuppah, a canopy with four poles that symbolizes their home that will now be built through both of their efforts. The Chuppah is so important that the wedding ceremony is often called the ceremony ‘Under the Chuppah.’
After the blessings are recited the groom and bride puts the ring on each other’s index finger,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], above the knuckle, on the right hand. The ring is to be a plain band with no engravings, decorations or gems...this is to symbolize that there is no beginning and no end. When the ring is placed upon each of their fingers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they each recite the traditional Jewish Wedding Vows “Haray At” for the Groom and “Haray Atah” for the Bride.
For an entire week leading up to the wedding it is customary that the groom and the bride do not see each other. But on the Sabbath of the week of the wedding the bride and groom have the honor of reciting the blessing over the Torah reading. This is called the Auf Ruf. When a couple or family do not belong to a temple, it can be arranged in the home of the family as long as a Minyan of 10 over the age of 13 years of age in order for Shabbat service with a Torah reading to take place. Always good to check with the Rabbi there is a Torah.
Following this the couple retires to a private room for a short period that symbolizes the new union in their home together,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Then there is a festive meal along with the reception to join their guests for extended celebration.
The normal Jewish wedding lasts 20 to 30 minutes. Traditionally, the bride would circle the groom before 2 blessings were recited over a cup of wine. Today, however, it's customary for the groom to also circle his bride. This symbolizes the fact that both have equal footing in the marriage and that they are central now to each other's lives. Next, the blessings are recited and the blessings are to remind the bride and groom about the commandments of marriage.
As part of Jewish wedding traditions, the groom and bride hear the seven blessings chanted both in Hebrew and English to further fulfill the Jewish wedding traditions. These 7 blessings are called the Sheva Berachot. Each blessing begins in a similar manner, saying that the couple is blessed by God:
Jewish weddings traditions are full of symbolism and are cause for happy celebration,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. It is thought that once married the bride and groom are complete and that man and woman belong together,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].

Now I had two parents living in different locations both needing support. My sister and I tried letting each other know who was going to see her and when, so that we could spread out our visits but it was a very challenging time.
Nowadays, I try to support my father by calling him once or twice a day. A huge portion of my life is now spent caring about and often for, my parents. I am blessed however. My sister and I share this commitment together. I also have a partner who takes a very proactive role in the care.
But we worry. There have been falls, broken hips,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], cracked heads and extended periods in hospital, gastroenteritis, and other illnesses. At times I will phone and my dad and he doesn’t answer (the batteries may be flat, the phone is switched off, he has left it in another room, ) then I have to drive to his place to check out if he is OK. At first those drives were terrifying but now I think I have probably imagined every possible scenario and I probably have immunised myself for whatever I may find.
I know there have been times when I have had nothing left to give another person. Times when I had nothing left to give to my children or my husband.
There are a few things that have helped me deal with the challenges and of course I am still learning,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Here are a few things I have learned along the way.
a) I give myself time. I refuse to rush. For me that makes a big difference to how I am with people.
b) When I plan to visit I made sure I really want to be there.
If we feel resentful, irritated, angry or even over tired I am sure our parents, just as our children and our friend feel it.
c) I try not to do more than I can manage,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. In other words I have become quite good at saying No. I’ve even learned to let the phone ring without running to answer it sometimes.
I am still dealing with the additional pressures of having aging parents.
But I find that if I complain, struggle or resist the reality of having two elderly parents in two different locations, I make it much harder for myself. And of course I am as human as the next person and sometimes I do make it harder for myself.
I have done my personal work with regards to both my parents and that is a blessing. All the loose threads and unfinished issues between my mum and I are now fully tied up and completed. To be fully present, in joy with our aging parents I truly believe we have to find our own way of letting go of past baggage, old resentments and hurts.
Here is a short excerpt from my new book,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
If we choose,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we can allow dementia to reconnect us to the only thing that is real, and that is this present moment. Serina, whose father had died over a year ago describes this so well. “Dad was a grumpy man most of his life. It was never easy for me to be with him. Alzheimer’s just exaggerated it even more. There was a lot a yelling during those last years. My mom trying to correct my Dad. My sister defending her son who Dad seemed to always pick on. But for me I finally got to spend some time with my Dad. He would sit with me and talk. I would take him on a daily ride around town....always the same route...always the same conversation never changing. Mum would ask me how I could sit with him for so long and I told her I just had patience. I wasn’t looking after him all the time like her. But what I really wanted to say was…finally, this man I call Dad is noticing me. But now that he has been gone a few years, I think I was noticing him more.”
Every child needs to be able to walk into any room where a parent lights up just because he is, and for no other reason. Indeed we all need to feel that who we are is of value-simply because we are. But very often that is not how it is or has been. During my early years my parents were far more interested in each other than they were of either my sister or I.
However one of the most remarkable things I’ve learned is that no matter how challenging the past was, life has a way of creating opportunities for change and healing.
My relationship with my mother has dramatically changed since she has had dementia.
One day I arrived to visit my mother and found her sitting on a chair tossing a large plastic ball to the nurse in the centre. Actually it looked more like she wanted to knock the nurse over, given the ferocity of her throw. As soon as she saw me she jumped up, ran towards me, threw her head back and thanked God over and over that I had arrived.
This was is a very different Lily to the one I had known all my life. The only time I remember Lily in direct contact with God was when she prayed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], “God help you if you don’t do what you are told. She no longer knows who I am and the need to be recognised or remembered has long passed. Now my mother falls in love me with every day. No past pain and no future plans. To be cherished and loved a new by my mother every time she sees me is a gift I could never have imagined.
There are challenges. We are facing a whole new phenomenon where not only have many of us had our children a little later than the previous generation but our parents are living much longer than their parents. We are the first generation faced with caring for both our parents and our children at the same time. There is no doubt that our aging parents deserve the best that we can give them and when they need to go into full time care we rightly demand they are treated with respect and dignity. As a community we not only need to have the right answers but more importantly we need to ask the right questions and share our wisdom with each other.
The Joys and Challenges of Aging Parents
By Sharon Snir
There are times when the full weight of responsibility for our beloved and aging parents can weigh us down. There are so many people who find themselves in a similar situation to me. They too have parents who are very old and need various levels of care. Some of them have children who have not yet left home. Some have jobs and husbands that require their attention and they have their own lives and occasionally need for time and space for themselves.
Change begins with acknowledging what is.
My story began 15 years ago.
It is a story of how a disease called Dementia crept into my family unannounced and left us, my family, struggling to hold on to a life that was slipping away from us like a balloon slipping out of a child’s hand.
I am married my husband thirty one years ago and we promptly had 5 children. The eldest is now 29 and the twins are 21. Between them there is one daughter, 27 and another son is 22. Life in the our household has always been busy. I had little time for socialising in the early years. I spent the first 8 years either pregnant, breastfeeding or both..
By the time our twins were seven my mother was already showing signs of memory loss and confusion. Let me put this into some perspective. Fifteen years ago my mother was 71 and my father was 79. They were living together in their own home and socialising regularly.
As the years passed dementia progressed and because there is shame and fear attached to dementia, and because we did not want to hurt or upset our mother, our family did not openly address the situation. My mother was a master at covering up her confusion and although she occasionally forgot where she had parked her car or put her handbag she was always able to make light of the situation.
Friends however, began to feel uncomfortable going out with my parents. My mother, knowing she did not remember everyone anymore,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], began to greet everyone she passed, just in case she did know them. She jumped up and greeted strangers that came into the restaurant and left them scratching their heads as to where they knew this warm and effusive woman.
My father dealt with this by giving her all the freedom she needed and was always there for her to come back to. Their friends, however, found the situation embarrassing and frightening and difficult to tolerate and slowly they disappeared. Only a hand full remained and to this day only one of her old friends continues to visit her.
All this took a huge toll on our family.
During those years my father was really the sole care-giver for my mum. It was the most difficult time in his life. Just recently he had back surgery because he was in excruciating pain and could hardly move at all. Whilst he was recuperating he told me that as difficult as this experience has been it was nothing compared to caring for my mother. Caring for someone with dementia, especially in the later stages of dementia is indescribably difficult.
There are more than 1,000,000 Australians who are involved in caring for someone with Dementia. Understandably this results in significant strain on families and carers as they struggle to deal with the daily challenges that arise when a loved one has dementia.
International studies make it clear that dementia occurs in every country of the world. It affects 1 in 20 people over the age of 65 and 1 in 5 over the age of 80. Worldwide there are an estimated 30 million people with dementia. By 2050 the number will rise to over 100 million.
When someone in your family has dementia there are a whole range of feelings we experience.
Let’s look at just a few.
Guilt
It is quite common to feel guilty – guilty for the way the person with dementia was treated in the past, guilty at feeling embarrassed by their odd behaviour, guilty for lost tempers or guilty for not wanting the responsibility of caring for a person with dementia.
There is a thin line between supporting our parents and taking over for them. Throughout this time I felt that I was often talking over and was burdened by the responsibility. Another feeling, one that I had not experienced since I was a wild teenager in the late ‘60’s and 70’s began to creep in. I felt I was being deceptive. Every time I spoke to someone about Lily I felt disloyal and guilty. I knew that my mother, the one I had grown up with, would have been furious with me for ‘hanging our dirty washing out for all to see.” She believed that what happened in the family stayed in the family. I never heard her complain to any of her friends. Even when we were children, at our most rebellious,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she would tell her friends how wonderful we were and boasted how we always told her everything.
If our parent goes into hospital or residential care we could feel guilty that we have not kept them at home for longer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], even though everything that could be done has been done. It is common to feel guilty about past promises such as “I’ll always look after you”, when this cannot be met.
Grief and Loss
Grief is an emotional response to loss. If someone close develops dementia, we are faced with the loss of the person we used to know and the loss of a relationship.
After moving my mother into a nursing home, the first few weeks were almost unbearable. She didn’t settle in at all well. She paced the corridors and I did not know how to help her.
Deep painful feelings bubbled up and leaked into my days at unexpected moments. I could be standing in a shop and a wave of grief would rise up and without warning I would burst into tears. I woke up night after night dreaming of my mother alone in her room. I still could not believe we had actually placed her into a special care unit. I felt tired and sad most days and didn’t want to see friends or talk on the phone to anyone. I stopped writing. I stopped reading. I missed her.
I did not know what to say to friends. I thought, maybe I could say I feel like my mother has died, but the words would not come out. My feelings didn’t match the reality. My mother had not died. Emotionally, however, I felt there had been a death in the family and there was no body to bury. No gathering of friends to share sweet memories and bid my mother farewell. No public acknowledgment of her life and who she was. When I learned that this grief had a name,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], disenfranchised grief, I was relieved.
Disenfranchised grief is the grief people feel when a loss cannot be openly acknowledged,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], publicly mourned, or socially supported.
Labels can sometimes be so comforting.
Anger
It is natural to feel frustrated and angry – angry at having to be a carer, angry with others who do not seem to be helping out, angry at the person with dementia for their difficult behaviours and angry at support services.
Feelings of distress, frustration, guilt,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], exhaustion and annoyance are quite normal.
You can imagine the pressure these emotional have on the dynamics of the relationships in the family.
4. Two years ago my father suffered a heart condition and was taken to hospital. It was there that he realised he could no longer care for his wife of 55 years alone any longer.
The decision to move your parents into a nursing home can be the most heart wrenching decision. For some people I have spoken to it felt very easy and natural and for others, my family included, it was deeply distressing.
More Challenges
Once we had moved our mother into the home we visited her every day for quite a few months. I needed to travel from the North Shore where we live to the Monte in Randwick. Balancing work, children’s needs, a marriage and some time for me became very difficult.

This is a story related to me by a reading coach in Paterson, NJ. She tutors hundreds of students every year at the public library and has tutored hundreds of children and teens with ADHD:
J.M. is a compassionate African American woman who works very diligently with children and teens who have special needs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], all of whom need help in reading. Paterson, NJ is a city with something like 200,000 people,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it was called Silk City, because in the 1930s it was the leading city in the world for textiles, silk fabricating. It is still a wonderful city,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but also, it has many social problems, such as drugs, alcohol,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], crime, gangs. The area where J.M. works is close to where some of these problems exist. Obviously, children are most effected. Some children are born from mothers who abused drugs or alcohol,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], some are victims of child abuse.
Jackie states that of all the children she has tutored and helped over the years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she feels that three have been truly ADHD, although many had been diagnosed. She feels that the support from coaches, tutors, caring adults, does much to give support to children with special needs and can be a very effective part of a treatment or support plan for such children and teens. She relates one story of a boy she tutored for many years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who had been diagnosed with ADHD. His case was “severe” she said. Unlike some, his mother was very attentive to his special needs and worked diligently with him. J. M. also worked with him through his teen years. Although he never took medication,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he himself worked hard and diligently and he was able to graduate high school,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as well as to attend and graduate college and work afterwards. He got much extra help from teachers and from supportive adults like J.M.,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], his mother and others.
Jackie was very thankful to see this boy get through his struggling years, and for persons with ADHD, it can be very encouraging that if they work hard and point their eyes straight ahead, with positive goals,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they can succeed. For any children or teens with special needs, if we view them as stepping stones,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], rather than stumbling blocks, we can rise above our special situations, and that can result in our success as well as help us to develop compassion for others who also are struggling. There were a lot of appeals, but ultimately, the Butler act was repealed.
It is naïve to say that the whole of human knowledge must be limited to what was known in Biblical times. If someone wants to deny all the scientific and technological advances since Biblical times, as far as I am concerned,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they should seriously consider living in the desert in a tent without air conditioning and working as a shepherd.
Big name lawyers, William Jennings Bryan for the state and Clarence Darrow for the defense, fought this out with a tremendous public following.
I say no. In America,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], people have a certain amount of compulsory education. I believe that some — if not most — are literate. I know that we all have — God-given,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if you wish — brains,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which some of us use piteously little.
I don’t know how many people know any scientists personally. Most people consider me one, for I have certainly done my share of research. Although I do consider myself a doctor, first and foremost, as I put health and well being of the individual first.
Most scientists I have known practice some type of worship. This is most often with their families and one of the common mainstream religions. Sure, a few are atheists or secularists of some sort. But heck, freedom of religion — or lack of it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if chosen — is one of the basic precepts upon which this nation was founded.
I don’t say science and technology are perfect. I do think increased social responsibility — in action and not just in thought — is absolutely crucial. It’s how we make certain that science and technology serve humankind in an ethical and moral way,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Few things get me as angry as the argument between evolutionists (Darwinian) and creationists. This alleged “problem” was addressed — and resolved – in the 1925 case The State of Tennessee vs. John Thomas Scopes.
Most people who speak to the public have “agendas.” At minimum, always question what somebody who is using the media to address the public expects you to believe — and why. Read and learn all you can and make your own decisions.
Anyone who believes, for example, that climate change is impossible because it was not presented in the Bible is naive, stupid, or both. The technologies that have made this a concern simply did not exist then. Even the most omnipotent of Deities cannot be expected to warn people of future dangers that don’t yet exist. Such dangers would be hard — if not impossible — to understand. And certainly impossible to fight.
Like My-Grandmother-Of-Blessed-Memory said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], “Learn all you can. Your learning is not something you will ever have to carry on your back.” My mother added to that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],” If you don’t learn as much as you can, you probably will end up carrying things on your back for a living.”
Whatever divine entity you believe in — whatever “universal intelligence” — is not a stupid being. Any Deity would simply reveal to people what they can understand,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
If you don’t believe me, go read. For all of these questions, the documents are freely available. Since the advent of the internet, documents are more available than ever. The place we get into trouble,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as a nation, is when some people say they will do thinking for others, and expect to be trusted as leaders.
Scopes was a biology teacher who taught evolution, which the Tennessee Butler Act said was illegal to teach.
Such a Deity has given humans a marvelous mind that can question and search for the truth,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Much has been learned — and many miracles are possible — because of the hard work of people who advance science and technology,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
I have no use for “science vs. religion” debates. They are artificially created to get people angry at each other, when there is absolutely no reason.

While we flail on the sidelines of known reality, the brain is the true space and final frontier in figuring out the reason behind human existence. Just because we cannot figure out if we are actually using these parts of the brain which seem to seem inert doesn’t mean that in some way, they are being used on a daily basis. One of the breakthroughs of the industry and of science itself is subliminal technology,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and it is one that caters to passing information straight into the subconscious mind so that greater effect can be wrung from these very subliminal instructions. One of the fabrics of this technology of course is subliminal learning,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which is activating the mind to be one knowledge machine. You can turn yourself into a veritable library of information, almost never forgetting what you learn and absorbing all the information into your memory banks.
Not only does subliminal learning help you to learn even when you sleep,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it does not stop only at memory retention. Because the information is wired into the very active subconscious mind,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], what you get is a situation that allows you to implement and practice this information whenever and wherever you want. Sometimes, this becomes sort of an impulse,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so it seems that you are always filled with all sorts of information at all times of the day. You can train your brain to do this sort of learning with subliminal technology and the good news is that it only takes a little while a day to do so. The cumulative effect when you finally mould your brain into a learning machine is brilliant. You become an information retaining and application machine without even knowing it.
You even learn when you sleep, which means that you are able to never miss out a beat when it comes to your tests and exams. This application is widespread for your personal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], social and professional life and imagine the edge you will have over your peers and competitors with such a talent. And all you need to do is to listen to some subliminal CD’s that will train your subconscious to be that aware. The power of the mind is something of a wonder,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and a wonder is an apt term to describe it because even now science and medicine has barely scratched the surface of the possibilities of the mind. Sure,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we are discovering new things about the mind on a daily basis,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but there are so many other areas that we have no idea about. More than 70% of the mind is unchartered territory and we do not have the vessels as yet to bring our scientific instruments to bear upon these strange and wonderful lands in the brain.

Disidentification: (By breaking old connections with the job itself or with co-workers, we lose self-definition or a role that determined our behaviour and made us more identifiable. The impact here is usually greater than we expect. )
•
•
•
To your continuing success!
3.Disenchantment: Once separated from the old situation, we seem to be floating between two worlds (former job and next job). We learn that the world is no longer the way we believed it to be.
Disenchantment related to your career occurs when an organisation or individual betrays your trust, the perfect job turns out not to be so perfect, or when we lose a job and recognise our own false sense of security.
Suggestion: To really change you need to ascertain whether an important part of your old reality was only imagined (e.g., the ‘noble’ boss or the ‘perfect’ job). Recognise the disenchantment as a minor or major signal of your need to look below the surface of what was thought to be true in order to bring your perception and reality together. Coaches are often used within large companies to help employees who are going though this stage. By revaluating what they perceive they can often change their mindset so they become re-engaged with their place in the organisation. If they are not able to re-engage the Coach can work with them to plan what to do next outside of their current role.
Dealing with an ending in the correct way can make all the difference. If we deal with an ending properly we can move on to the next phase of our lives. If we do not then we can become trapped and become stuck in limbo somewhere between an end and a new beginning,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
We have to let go of the old before beginning the new, no matter what the nature of the transition is. The second phase of a transition is the neutral zone. This is described as a time of confusion and emptiness, a period of needing to be alone, a time of inner reorientation, leading to greater self-understanding, renewal, confidence, and of courage to move forward to the third phase: a new beginning. The new beginning involves adjusting to the change that has just occurred in one’s life and thus successfully passing on and through the transition.
Disorientation: (As a result of leaving the old reality (former job) behind, your sense of orientation is gone, resulting in the following feelings of being lost, confused, and not quite knowing where you are)
•
•
•
It can be very difficult for many of us to move on and to let go of aspects of our past. Bridges (1980) in his book Transitions: Making sense of life’s changes suggests that we can accept transitions better by recognizing that letting go can be at best confusing; trying to understand the phases related to transitions; and developing skills to better negotiate our way through these phases. To accomplish this,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he says we need to understand how one copes with endings. When breaking our connections with the familiar and approaching the unfamiliar, fear is a common response.
An ending occurs when we go though Life Transitions (which I discuss in Article 1) and though Elected, Non Elected and Non events (Article 2) transitions.
For example, a person who is made redundant needs to pass though Disengagement, Disidentification, Disenchantment and Disorientation to complete the ending phase of the transition. The problem is not necessarily that the person does not want to give up the job or cannot let go of that piece of his or her identity. The real problem is that before people can identify a new something, they need to deal with a period of nothing.
As I have already discussed in Article 2 there are 3 stages to change.
1. Let go of the old situation
2. Move into the transition or neutral zone
3. Move into a new beginning
4.Disorientation: As a result of leaving the old reality (former job) behind, your sense of orientation is gone, resulting in the following:
•Feelings of being lost,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], confused, and not quite knowing where you are
•Feeling that life is breaking down and no longer going anywhere
•Plans for the future being disrupted
•The disorientation aspect of the ending is meaningful but not enjoyable.
Suggestion: The confusion and disruption are inevitable. Perhaps recognizing its part in the process can help you cope better as you enter the neutral zone,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or ‘time out’ period. This will lead to adjustment to the transition,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with increased self understanding, on your way to a new beginning. A Coach is very effective in this stage as they can help the person create a new vision and new orientation and help the person work though the feelings of being lost and confused.

1.Disengagement: To break away from the context (activity/job, relationship/co-workers, setting/workplace, or role/job title) in which we have known ourselves.
Suggestion: The process of change can begin when you recognise and accept that this change must be made. This can be either by your choice (career change) or not by your choice (being fired). Therefore you should move toward what you fear, rather than away from it. If you need help in doing so (such as from a Coach) then you should seek it.
How to cope with Endings and start new Beginnings.
Hello and welcome back to this series of articles on change. In the second article entitled ‘Elected, Non Elected and Non Events Life Transitions. How have you dealt with them? I discussed dealing with endings and Elected transitions, Non elected transitions and Non Events.
2.Disidentification: By breaking old connections (with the job itself or with co-workers), we lose self-definition or a role that determined our behaviour and made us more identifiable. The impact here is usually greater than we expect.
Suggestion: At this time, it becomes important to attempt to be more open and flexible in how we think of ourselves so that we can move on through a transition toward a new self-identification. Working with a Coach will allow you to examine your role outside of the situation which could lead to greater confidence,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], self respect and self esteem.
Think about an ending that you have been though. It can be a leaving education, a change in job or a change in career. Think about the 4 endings I have described. Make a list of the 3 things you did during each ending that helped you get though the change. How could this learning help you deal with another change?
Disengagement: (To break away from the context - activity/job, relationship/co-workers, setting/workplace,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or role/job title - in which we have known ourselves.)

Disenchantment: (Once separated from the old situation, we seem to be floating between two worlds - former job and next job. We learn that the world is no longer the way we believed it to be.)

Four key aspects of the ending experience are described below,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Dr D. Helfand (1995) in his book ‘Career Change’ outlines 4 coping mechanisms for coping with an ending.
Next time I will be looking at Career challenges facing those people in their early to late twenties.
The empty time (neutral zone) is important because we simply can’t always leave one thing and go right into another. We need to take time out and give some thought to what we want for ourselves and the important people in our lives. As new ideas for the future emerge during the neutral zone phase,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], people begin to enter the third and final phase of the transition: making a new beginning. This phase involves an inner realignment and renewal of energy. Working with a Coach can fast track you to this final stage a lot faster than if you worked though it yourself. People who do not use Coaches will certainly get there,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but it may take them 5 times as long as a person working with a Coach.
In this article I will look into endings and how best to deal with them. Almost all endings mean the start of something else, and by learning how to deal with endings we can better prepare ourselves for change and for the future. This state of transition where one situation is ending and another one is beginning can be very stressful. It can lead to all sorts of problems if you are not prepared for it. We might take a graduate leaving university as an example: if they have not prepared for life after university then this transition can be very stressful; if however they have started planning and have some idea about what they will be doing next then they will deal with this transition much more easily. Having a Coach during this transition can be hugely beneficial as it allows you to sort out what you need to do to get ahead and then form an action plan for getting there.
Now here is the practical part of the article,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
